뉴질랜드의 모든 아이들이 좋은 교육을 받을 수 있도록 보장하는 것은 정부가 해야 될 가장 중요한 일들 중 하나입니다.
그렇기 때문에 저는 학교의 리더쉽과 교육의 질을 높여 더 나은 성과를 얻을 수 있도록 지난 해 $359 million의 계획을 발표한 것입니다.
4년 계획의 첫 한해동안 전국적으로 793곳의 학교가 이 계획에 동의 하였으며, 여기엔 25만명의 학생들이 포함 됩니다.
이 학교들은 96개의 학습 공동체로 나누어져서 전문 지식, 자료, 리더쉽, 그리고 높은 질의 교육을 함께 나누고 있습니다. 우리의 목표는 학교의 리더쉽을 강화시키고, 교실에 최고의 교사들을 배치하는 것입니다.
왜냐하면 국제적인 증거와 뉴질랜드의 연구가 보여주는 것이- 교육의 질과, 학교의 리더쉽이 학교 안에서의 학생의 교육에 가장 중요한 두가지라고 보여주기 때문입니다.
이번 계획을 향한 긍정적인 반응들과 빠른 이해력으로 인해 3분의 1의 뉴질랜드 학생들은 이미 학교들이 함께 협력하여 전문 지식을 나누는 것을 통해 혜택을 보고 있습니다.
이 계획은 학교의 성과를 높히고 학생들이 최고의 교육을 받을 수 있도록 만들어 주는 국민당 정부의 여러 계획 중 하나일 뿐입니다.
우리는 또한 전국적으로 새로운 학교를 짓고, 새로운 교실을 만들기 위해 투자하고 있습니다. 우리는 전국적으로 뿐만 아니라, 세계적으로 더 쉬운 연결이 이루어지도록 학교들에 더 빠르고, 무한한 광대역을 설치하고 있습니다.
더 나아가 우리는 학생들이 학교를 졸업한 후에 배울 공부나, 교육에 필요한 기술을 갖추어 학교를 졸업할 수 있도록 노력하고 있습니다.
2014년도에 81.2%의 18세 학생들이 NCEA 레벨 2나, 동일한 자격 요건을 성취 하였으며, 74.3%의 성취율을 나타낸 2011년도 보다 상승한 수치 입니다. 우리는 2017년도까지 85%를 이룰 수 있도록 노력할 것입니다.
지난 주, International Education Snapshot Report가 발표 되었습니다. 보고서에 따르면 올해 첫 8개월 동안 대략 105,000명의 국제적인 학생들이 뉴질랜드에 거주하고 있으며, 이것은 2014년 보다 13% 증가한 수치 입니다.
이러한 성장은 국내적으로나, 국제적으로나 좋은 교육과 최고의 학습 경험을 제공하기 위한 교육 공급자들의 노력을 나타냅니다.
좋은 교육은 우리 아이들이 뉴질랜드와 세계에서 성공할 수 있도록 지원하며, 더 나아가 더 생산적이고 경쟁적인 경제를 세우는 것에 기여합니다.
그렇기 때문에 우리는 모든 뉴질랜드 아이들이 가능한 최고의 교육을 받을 수 있도록 지속적으로 노력할 것입니다.
A better education for our children
Ensuring every child in New Zealand gets a great education is one of the most important things we can do as a government.
That’s why last year I announced a new $359 million initiative to further lift achievement in schools though improving teaching quality and school leadership.
Today I’m delighted to report, in the first year of the four-year rollout of this initiative, 793 schools across the country have signed up, which together have around 250,000 students.
These schools have formed themselves into 96 communities of learning so they can work together to share expertise, resources, leadership, and quality teaching. Our aim is to strengthen school leadership and keep our best teachers in the classroom teaching.
That’s because international evidence and New Zealand-based research is clear - the quality of teaching and school leadership are the two most important in-school factors in a child’s education.
The overwhelming positive response to, and quick uptake, of this initiative means about a third of New Zealand students are already in line to benefit from their schools working together and sharing expertise.
This initiative is just one of the things the National-led Government is doing to lift achievement in schools and ensure our children get the best education possible.
We’re also investing in building new schools and classrooms right across the country. We’re rolling out faster, unlimited broadband to our schools so they can better connect to the rest of New Zealand and the world.
And we’re ensuring more students are leaving school equipped with the skills they need to undertake further education or training.
In 2014, the proportion of 18-year-olds with NCEA Level 2, or an equivalent qualification, reached 81.2 per cent, up from 74.3 per cent in 2011, and on track for our target of 85 per cent by 2017.
Last week, the latest International Education Snapshot Report was released. It showed there were almost 105,000 international students in New Zealand in the first eight months of this year, an increase of 13 per cent over the same period in 2014.
This strong growth is testament to the efforts of education providers nationwide who continue to deliver excellent education and provide outstanding study experiences to domestic and international students alike.
A good education helps our children be successful at home and around the world and also contributes to building a more productive and competitive economy.
That’s why we will continue to work hard to ensure every child in New Zealand gets the best education possible.
