우리 아이들이 현대 글로벌 경제에서 성공할 수 있도록 돕는 것 중에 가장 중요한 것은 아이들이 좋은 교육을 받게 하는 것입니다.
그것에 있어서 주요 부문은 학교들이 증가하는 인구를 수용하고, 우리 아이들이 학습을 용이하게 하는 환경에서 배울 수 있도록 보장하는 것입니다.
2008년 이후, 정부는 학교 기반시설에 대략 $5 billion을 투자했으며- 이것은 이전 그 어떤 정부보다 많은 수치입니다.
우리는 새로운 학교들과, 주요 재개발 및 새로운 교실 신설에 투자하고 있습니다. 저는 지난주 교육부 부장관 Nikki Kaye와 함께 오클랜드에 위치한 Long Bay Primary School의 새로운 교실 블럭을 발표하며 진행중인 이 프로그램을 직접적으로 보았습니다.

이 학교는 지진으로 인해 학교를 닫은 동쪽 Christchurch의 여러 학교들을 통합하게 만듭니다. 개교한 이 학교는 그 지역의 회복에 있어서 긍정적이고 중요한 이정표입니다.
이것은 Christchurch의 학교 재건설을 위한 10억 달러 이상의 투자 중 일부분입니다. 이 학교는 2011년 지진 이후 새롭게 개설된 10번 째 학교입니다.

국민당 정부는 조기 유아 교육에 투자를 두배 이상으로 늘렸으며; 교실에 최고의 교사 배치와, 리더쉽 및 전문성 공유를 위한 $359 million의 정책을 발표했습니다. 또한 정부는 학교들이 더 빠르고 무한한 광대역에 접속할 수 있도록 디지털 기반시설 개선을 위해 $700 million를 투자할 것입니다.
우리는 우리의 교육 시스템이 모든 뉴질랜드 아이들과 젊은이들에게 맞게 작동하기를 바라며, 그렇기 때문에 우리는 지역마다, 여러 주 동안 투자하는 것입니다.
Making sure our kids get a good education is the most important thing we can do to help them succeed in a modern, global economy.
A key part of that is ensuring schools can accommodate our growing population and that our kids have the opportunity to learn in environments that facilitate learning.
Since 2008, we have committed around $5 billion to school infrastructure- more than any previous Government.
We’re investing in new schools, major redevelopments and new classrooms. Last week, I saw this ongoing programme first-hand when I joined Associate Education Minister Nikki Kaye to announce that a new classroom block will be built at Long Bay Primary School in Auckland.
It’s a $3.8 million project that includes six teaching spaces in a two-storey block and it’s another example of the Government dealing with growth in Auckland.
Auckland is our fastest-growing city, and home to more than a third of the country’s population. The Government is determined to ensure kids there get the best possible chance to develop their talents.
I was also in Christchurch last week with Education Minister Hekia Parata for the opening of Haeata Community Campus. Haeata is a year one to 13 school. It has more than 950 students, aged from five through to 18.
It brings together a number of schools which had to close in Christchurch East following the earthquake. Its opening is a critical and positive milestone in the recovery of that part of the city.
This is part of more than a billion dollars of spending we set aside for rebuilding schools in Christchurch. It will be the 10th new school to open following the 2011 earthquake.
While it doesn’t attract attention in day-to-day political reporting, we do have a very large programme of improvement in education, which includes a significant, nation-wide upgrade of education infrastructure. And we are achieving some excellent results.
Children are now beginning their education earlier, they are staying longer, and leaving better qualified with 83.3 percent of 18 year-olds achieving NCEA Level 2.
This National-led Government has more than doubled our investment in early childhood education; we introduced a $359 million policy to keep the best teachers in classrooms and share leadership and expertise. We are also investing $700 million into improving the digital infrastructure of schools to ensure they have access to faster and unlimited broadband.
We want to make sure our education system works for every New Zealand child and young person, and that is why we are investing in it week after week, region after region.
