한-뉴 자유무역협정(FTA)이 3.23(월) 박근혜 대통령과 한국을 공식방문중인 John Key 총리가 임석한 가운데 정식 서명되었다.

On 23 March, Korea and New Zealand officially signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in Seoul, with President Park Geun-hye and New Zealand Prime Minister John Key present.

양 정상은 정상 회담을 갖고 FTA 정식 서명은 양국 수교 53년 역사에 한 획을 긋는 뜻 깊은 일로, 경제 분야는 물론 문화, 인적교류, 안보, 국제협력 등 다방면에서 한 차원 높은 협력을 해 나갈 수 있는 중요한 토대를 마련했다고 평가하였다.

President Park held summit talks with Prime Minister Key, who is on an official visit to Korea, and told that, the official signing of the FTA is “a meaningful occasion which creates a new era in our 53-year-old bilateral diplomatic relationship”, and that it “offered an important foundation to upgrade bilateral cooperation in not only the economic sector, but also in various other sectors, including the culture, people-to-people exchanges, security and international cooperation.”

한-뉴 FTA는 관세양허를 통한 무역증대 및 투자증진뿐 아니라, 농업기술 연수훈련 기회 제공, 워킹홀리데이 확대 등 인적 교류 증진 방안을 담고 있다. 워킹홀리데이 쿼터 확대 및 취업제한조건 개선은 국회비준동의등 양국 국내절차를 거친후 FTA 협정 발효 이후부터 적용될 예정이다.

Trade between Korea and New Zealand is expected to boost through tariff concession while people-to-people exchange will also be enhanced via primary sector training programmes and improved working holiday schemes.
