한국정부는 메르스 확산 방지를 위해 범정부적 대응 체제를 구축하여 총력으로 대응중이다. 메르스 확진자와 접촉 가능성이 있는 사람에 대해 광범위한 격리조치중이며, 특히 국외 확산을 막기 위해 격리 대상자 전원에 대해 출국금지 조치를 내렸다.
한국은 WHO등 국제사회와 긴밀히 협조하고 있다. 6.17 WHO 긴급위원회(EC) 발표는 (1) 현상황은 위기 사항으로 규정하지 않으며, (2) 한국 발병 메르스 바이러스가 유전적으로 변이된 것이라고 볼 수 없다고 확인하였으며, (3) 현재 지속적 지역사회 감염은 아닌 것으로 평가하고 있으며, (4) 여행 또는 무역제한 적용을 권고하지 않고 있다.
현재 한국정부는 메르스를 이유로 뉴질랜드로부터 입국하는 분들에 대한 어떠한 제한 조치도 취하고 있지 않으며, 뉴질랜드 정부도 한국에 대한 여행경보를 상향조치 하고 있지 않다.
The Korean government is devoting all its efforts to strengthening our response system with the full participation of local governments, the private sector, the military, and schools. This includes use of multiple approaches to identifying contacts and to ensuring their appropriate quarantine and monitoring, as well as effective means to stop inappropriate travel of cases and contacts while they are potentially infectious.
The Korean government is closely collaborating with World Health Organization(WHO). The WHO statement released on 17 June concluded that (1) the conditions for a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) were not met, (2) available evidence on genetic sequencing did not identify any significant changes in the viruses obtained from cases in the Republic of Korea compared to viruses from the Middle East, (3) there was no current evidence of sustained community transmission, and (4) WHO did not recommend the application of any travel or trade restrictions and considers screening at points of entry to be unnecessary at this time.
The Korean government does not impose any restrictions to those travelling from New Zealand. Moreover, Safetravel has not changed its travel advisory on Korea on its website, which remains as is since September 2014.
