TPP delivers substantial benefits for NZ
지난 목요일에 환태평양경제동반자협정(TPP) 서명식이 오클랜드에서 열렸으며, 이 날은 뉴질랜드에게 중요한 날이었습니다. TPP는 뉴질랜드의 가장 큰 자유무역협정입니다 – 이 협정에 참여한 12 국가들은 전세계 경제의 36%를 차지 합니다. 이 협정으로 인해 우리 수출업자들은 아시아와 태평양에 있는 8억명의 고객들에게 더 쉽게 다가갈 수 있게 되었습니다.
이번 협정은 새로운 무역과 투자 기회들을 뉴질랜드에게 가져다 줄 것이며, 뉴질랜드 회사들이 해외에서 더 쉽게 비지니스를 할 수 있게 도와줄 것입니다. 이로 인해 뉴질랜드 국민들에게는 더 많은 직업 창출과 더 높은 임금으로 이어질 것입니다.
TPP는 2030년도까지 뉴질랜드 경제에 매년 $2.7 billion의 이득을 안겨다 줄 것이며, 그 것은 시작에 불과 합니다.예를 들어, 중국과의 자유 무역 협정은 모든 예상을 뛰어 넘었습니다. 두 나라간의 무역은 2008년도 협정 서명 이후 두배인 $20 billion이 되었습니다. 뉴질랜드의 포도와 키위 재배자들은 한국과의 자유 무역 협정으로 인한 이익을 거두고 있습니다.
TPP로 인해 뉴질랜드의 5대 교역 파트너들인 미국, 일본, 캐나다, 멕시코, 그리고 페루와의 무역에서 관세가 93% 철폐 되며, 전반적으로 뉴질랜드에 큰 이득을 가져다 줄 것입니다.일부 TPP 반대자들은 뉴질랜드 국민들에게 이 협정에 대한 잘못된 인식을 심겨 주었습니다.
의약품은 인상되지 않을 것이며, 다른 국가들이 뉴질랜드 법을 좌우할 수 없을 것입니다. 작은 섬나라 국가로서, 뉴질랜드는 나라 안에서만 물건을 사고 파는 걸로 부유해질 수 없습니다. 그러나 강하고 오래 지속될 글로벌 관계를 세워나간다면 가능합니다.
역대 정부들이 25년 동안 이번 협정을 이루려고 노력 했습니다. 그들도 이 협정이 다양하고 성장하는 경제를 세울 것이라고 생각했기 때문입니다. 그렇기 때문에 어떤 정부라도 TPP를 놓치는 것은 상상할 수 없습니다.
뉴질랜드의 미래는 전세계를 향한 개방과 전세계와의 연결에 달려 있습니다. 이 모든 것은 뉴질랜드 국민들에게 필요한 일을 하는 것이며 – 그렇기 때문에 뉴질랜드 국민들에게 번영과 일자리, 그리고 우리 아이들에게 높은 임금을 가져다 줄 이번 협정을 지지하는 것입니다. TPP는 뉴질랜드와 우리 미래에 긍정적일 것입니다.
이 협정은 각국에서 국내이행과정이 이루어진 후 2년 안에 발효 될 것으로 예상됩니다. TPP는 국민당 정부가 가진 계획, 곧 우리 경제의 강화와 활성화로 인한 더 많은 일자리 창출과 국민들에게 더 많은 기회를 제공하는 것을 지원할 것입니다.
저는 TPP가 우리 수출업자들, 비지니스들, 그리고 우리 국가에게 가져다 줄 혜택들을 기대합니다.
Last Thursday was a significant day for New Zealand, with the signing of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement in Auckland.The TPP is New Zealand’s biggest free trade agreement – the 12 countries involved represent 36 per cent of the global economy. It will give our exporters much better access to more than 800 million customers in Asia and the Pacific.
It will create significant new trade and investment opportunities for New Zealand and make it easier for Kiwi companies to do business overseas. That means more jobs and higher incomes for New Zealanders.The TPP will add an estimated $2.7 billion a year to the New Zealand economy by 2030, but I think that is conservative.
The China Free Trade Agreement, for example, has exceeded all expectations. Trade between our two countries has doubled to $20 billion since the agreement was signed in 2008. Our kiwifruit and wine growers are also reaping the benefit of the Korean Free Trade Agreement.
Overall, the TPP is overwhelmingly beneficial to New Zealand with the elimination of 93 per cent of tariffs on New Zealand’s exports to the United States, Japan, Canada, Mexico and Peru – five of our top trading partners.Some TPP opponents have resorted to deliberately misleading New Zealanders about the deal. Medicines will not cost you more and other countries will not be able to dictate New Zealand law.
As a small island nation, New Zealand can’t get rich selling things to itself. But it can if we build and develop strong and enduring global relationships.Successive New Zealand governments have worked hard to achieve this for 25 years. They knew it would help diversify and grow the economy. So it really is unthinkable that any responsible government would now walk away from the TPP.
New Zealand’s future lies in being open and connected with the rest of the world. This is about doing what’s right for New Zealanders by supporting an agreement that will bring prosperity, jobs, and higher incomes for your kids and mine. The TPP will be positive for our country and for our future.
The agreement is expected to enter into force within two years, once the countries involved have completed their domestic implementation processes.The TPP builds on the National-led Government’s wider plan to diversify and strengthen our economy, support more jobs, and provide more opportunities for Kiwis to get ahead.
I’m looking forward to seeing the benefits the TPP will deliver to our exporters, businesses and to our country as whole.
