환태평양경제동반자협정(TPP)은 뉴질랜드 수출업자들과 뉴질랜드 전체에 큰 혜택을 가져다 줄 것입니다.지난 몇주간, 전국적으로 뉴질랜드 국민들은 이번 협정에 대해 의견을 제출할 수 있는 기회가 있었으며, 2016년 내내 이 공개 회담은 이어질 것입니다.
지난주, TPP에 대한 특별 위원회 청문회가 이틀 동안 열렸으며, 국회의원들은 70명 정도의 사람들과 기관들로부터 의견을 들을 수 있었습니다. 이것은 뉴질랜드 국민들이 질문하며, 그들의 의견을 얘기할 수 있는 기회이며, 투명하고 열려 있는 과정입니다.
앞으로 몇달간 정부는 전국적으로 로드쇼를 가질 것이며, 열린 토론과 토의가 이루어질 것입니다.작은 섬나라 국가로서, 뉴질랜드는 우리 나라 안에서만 거래를 하는걸로 부자가 될 수 없습니다. 그러나 우리가 강하고 지속적인 글로벌 관계를 세운다면 가능합니다.
환태평양경제동반자협정은 뉴질랜드의 가장 큰 자유 무역 협정입니다 – 참여한 12개국은 세계 경제의 36%를 차지합니다. 이것은 우리 수출업자들에게 아시아와 태평양에 있는 8억명의 고객들에게 더 쉬운 접근을 가져다 줄 것입니다.또한 우리 수출업자들에게 매년 $274 million의 관세를 절약해 줄것이며, 2030년도까지 뉴질랜드 경제에 적어도 매년 $2.7 billion의 이득을 가져올 것입니다.
뉴질랜드에게 또 다른 좋은 소식이 있습니다. 저는 중국을 방문 하고 돌아왔습니다. 거기서 뉴질랜드 수출업자들이 비지니스를 성장하고 발전할 수 있는 기회를 제공할 수 있도록 몇가지 협정들을 서명 했습니다. 협정들 중 하나는 중국에서 가장 크고, 전세계적으로 큰 온라인 소매업체인 알리바바(Alibaba)와의 협정입니다. Jack Ma 알리바바 회장과의 미팅 후, 그는 뉴질랜드 비지니스들이 알리바바의 온라인 플랫폼을 통해 제품을 팔 수 있는 더 많은 기회들을 제공 받을 수 있도록 뉴질랜드 정부와 협정을 맺었습니다.

이 협정은 뉴질랜드에게 진정한 성공이었습니다. 중국은 뉴질랜드에게 이제 두번째로 큰 무역 파트너이며, 협정이 맺어진 후 양국간의 무역은 두배로 늘어 $19 billion에 다다르고 있습니다.
마지막으로, 뉴질랜드는 4월 25일 월요일날 ANZAC 데이를 기념 했습니다. 매년 전국적으로 수천명의 뉴질랜드 국민들이 기념식에 참여하여 제 1차세계대전과 다른 전쟁에서 목숨을 바친 군인들을 기립니다. 그들의 희생이 없었다면 현재의 뉴질랜드는 다른 모습일 것입니다. 끝으로,저는 웰링턴에서 열린 ANZAC Day 새벽 추모행사에 참석할 수 있어서 영광이었습니다.
The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) will deliver significant benefits to New Zealand exporters and the country as a whole.Over the past few weeks, New Zealanders across the country have had their chance to have their say on the agreement and this consultation will continue throughout 2016.
Last week, the Parliamentary Select Committee hearings on the TPP continued with two full days of discussions, and MPs heard the views of close to 70 people and organisations.This is part of an open and transparent process so we can ensure every Kiwi has an opportunity to ask questions and have their views heard.
Over the coming weeks and months the Government will also continue to hold a number of roadshows throughout the country, which are designed to allow for open debate and informed discussion.
As a small island nation, New Zealand can’t get rich selling things to ourselves. But it can if we build and develop strong and enduring global relationships.The TPP is New Zealand’s biggest free trade agreement – the 12 countries involved in it represent 36 per cent of the global economy. It will give our exporters much better access to more than 800 million customers in Asia and the Pacific.
It will save our exporters around $274 million a year in tariffs and is expected to benefit the New Zealand economy by at least $2.7 billion a year by 2030. In other good news for New Zealand, I’ve just arrived back home from a trip to China where a number of agreements were signed that will provide opportunities for New Zealand exporters to grow and develop their businesses.
One of these agreements was with China’s and one of the world’s biggest online retailers Alibaba. After meeting with Alibaba CEO Jack Ma, he signed a deal with the New Zealand government to give New Zealand businesses more opportunities to sell their good through Alibaba’s online platform.
While in China I also met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang. I had positive and wide-ranging talks with both leaders, including making good progress on what an upgrade to the NZ-China Free Trade Agreement might look like.
This agreement has been a real success for New Zealand. China is now our second-largest trading partner and two-way trade more has more than doubled since it came into force, reaching almost $19 billion.
Finally, New Zealand commemorated ANZAC Day on Monday 25 April. Each year thousands of New Zealanders attend ceremonies across the country to remember those service men and women who lost their lives in the First World War and in other conflicts in the years since. We wouldn’t be the country we are today without their sacrifice and I was honoured to attend the dawn service to mark ANZAC Day in Wellington.
