수상이 됨으로써 가질 수 있는 특권 중 하나는 미래에 대한 자신감이 충만한 많은 젊고 야심찬 국민들을 만날 수 있다는 것입니다.  

 제가 그들과 이야기 해보면, 디지털 기술이 그들의 삶과 직업에 큰 역할을 하고 있으며 디지털능숙도가 삶의 필수 항목이 되어가고 있다는 것이 너무나 명백합니다.

 디지털 능숙도는, 단순히 효과적으로 기술을 활용하는 것만을 의미하지는 않습니다. 새로운 디지털 기술의 혁신적인 개발을  가능하게 하는 지식과 기술의 보유를 말하는 것입니다. 

 Weta Workshop에서 영화를 만들고, Rocket Lab에서 로켓을 쏘아 올리거나 The Americas Cup을 위해 보트를 건조하는 등 이 디지털 능숙도는 이미 여러 차례 세계 무대에서 뉴질랜드 사람들이 빛날 수 있도록 하고 있습니다. 

 이것이 바로 국민당 정부가 아주 중요하게 받아들이는 분야입니다. 우리는 우리의 젊은이들이 디지털적으로 능숙해서 성공적인 삶을 영위하고, 우리 국민이 세계수준 기술의 선두에 설 수 있기를 바랍니다. 이를 위하여 지난 10년간 우리는 교육 교과 과정에 아주 큰 변화를 만들어가고 있습니다.  

 교육부장관 Nikki Kaye는 우리의 교육 시스템이 기술 발달 속도에 맞추어 운영되고 있음을 확인하고 우리의 젊은이들이 급변하는 경제와 사회에 온전히 참여할 수 있도록하기위한 4천만 달러의 투자 패키지를 발표하였습니다.

 선생님들의 전문성 개발, 디지털 교육 활성화를 위한 자원의 확대 공급, 그리고 디지털 학습 프로그램을 제공하는 외부 공급자에대한 전폭적인 지원을 포함합니다.

 이것은 우리가 이미 구축하고 있는 케이블망, 무선 기술 그리고 교육 네트워크와 같은 교육 기반 시설에 대한 7억 달러 투자 기반 위에 더해지는 것입니다. 이 관리 네트워크를 통해 우리는 모든 공립학교에 빠른 속도의 무제한 접속을 제공하고 있습니다.

 이 시점에서 우리는 우리의 교육 시스템이 미래를 확실하게 대비하고 있으며, 2020년대와 2030년대,그리고 그 이후를 위해 우리 젊은 뉴질랜드인을 준비시키고 있음을 확인하는 데에 투자해야 한다는 것을 알고 있습니다.

 국민당 정부는 모든 학교의 모든 학생들, 뉴질랜드 전역의 교육이 더 잘 준비되고 풍성해질 수 있는, 그리고 이 디지털 세상을 이끌어 나갈 수 있는 성공적인 교육 시스템에 대한 분명한 미래상을 가지고 있습니다. 

Preparing young New Zealanders for the future

One of the privileges of being Prime Minister is that I get to meet so many young and ambitious New Zealanders who are filled with confidence for their future.

It’s clear when I talk to them that digital technology will play a big part in their lives and careers, and that digital fluency has become an essential life skill. 

When we talk about digital fluency, we don’t just mean being able to use technology effectively. Digital fluency is about having the skills and knowledge to become innovative creators of new digital technology.

It’s what has helped New Zealanders shine on the world stage many times over, whether by making movies for Weta Workshop, launching rockets for Rocket Lab, or building boats for The Americas Cup. 

And it’s something the National-led Government is taking very seriously. We want young New Zealanders to be digitally fluent so they can achieve a life-time of success, and keep New Zealand at the forefront of world-class technology. 

To achieve this, we are making the biggest change to our education curriculum in a decade.

Our Minister of Education Nikki Kaye recently announced a $40 million investment package to ensure our education system keeps pace with technology and enables our young people to participate fully in an ever-changing economy and society.

This includes funding for the professional development of our teachers, more resources to support digital learning, and significant support for external providers who offer digital learning programmes

It builds on the $700 million investment we have already made in a state-of-the-art digital education infrastructure which includes cabling, wireless technology and the Network for Learning. Through this Managed Network, we are providing state schools with fast, uncapped broadband connections. 

We know we need to invest at this level to ensure we’re future proofing our education system and preparing young New Zealanders for the 2020s, the 2030s and beyond.

This National-led Government has a clear vision for a successful education system that ensures all students in all schools and kura across New Zealand will be better prepared to live, flourish and lead in the digital world.
